| This tutorial is directed to anyone, youngling or elderly, who are ignorant to the functions of the internet and are curious to gain the knowledge to perform simple tasks such as adding an avatar on a Forummotion forum such as our lovely home: WDA. Okay, so you have the picture (it is called an " image") in front of you on your screen. Here is what you need to do to create an " avatar" : Step 1: Hover your cursor (the pointer looking thingy on your screen) over the image/picture. Step 2: Right click the imageStep 3: There should be some options that come out of this action. There you will see one that says "COPY URL", OR "COPY IMAGE URL". If it has none of these, then highlight the URL of the image. To highlight something, what you do is you get your cursor and hover it over the letters. Hold the left button down and move your entire mouse to the right and it should highlight. Make sure to highlight everything in the URL or else it wont work. Once you have highlighted the entire URL, right click over the url and hit "COPY". Step 4: Go to the "Profile" tab on WDA. Step 5: Go to where it says "Avatar" Step 6: Once you have done that, hit "SAVE". There, all done. You now have an avatar in WDA. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- To have an avatar in the chat, you basically paste the URL of the image into a box i will show you in the picture below: There! Now you have an avatar on both the WDA forums and on the chatbox! | |

| Research shows that 90% of the people who know nothing of the internet view themselves as no less than their immediate superiors in internet knowledge. As such, they view their problems not as individual things they need help with, but as faults with the site which will be addressed in a public vote which is more likely to get the attention of everybody it can. | |

| since this is a guide i want to add on it renders work differently than other images on this site if you put a render using the "upload avatar from computer" or "upload avatar from URL" the render will have an odd random background, this used to be avoided by having a black background on your render though i believe it doesn't work anymore since we changed the layout of the site to avoid this you can use the second box "link to an off site avatar" which will load your render normally, the only issue with this method is it gets you the image in it's full size and doesn't corp it to suit the forum, you can use programs to fix the size issue the best method to fix it however is to go to a site like dueling network forums which will always auto corp it,use the render as an avi go to the new render link which will be affiliated to the forum site and not the original image link, use that link and you'll have your render working here with the perfect forum size. also in the new forum image link there might be some extra things after .png/.jpg remove those if the link doesn't work.
hope you can add this to the guide digi, maybe word it out better but i thought it's worth mentioning

| Adding to above comment, .jpg images are always compressed images, where all image layers an image may have are automatically rendered to one layer without any transparency in them (means backgrounds are shown white in the image even if the image was originally uncompressed, such as .png image).
When browsing for a transparent image, be sure the URL (Uniform Resource Locator, that's what is written at the top of your browser [browsers are programs you use to access the internet with, such as Mozilla Firefox {originally known as Netscape}, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Opera, Safari, etc.]) contains a .png image which is displayed at the end of a file name (such as, including the file path which is what the Explorer of your PC (assuming you're using Windows, it's Finder in Macs) is accessing, C:\Windows\windows.png).
If you really have the urge to a rendered image (multiple layers with transparent background) as avatar, be sure you use an image editing program (like Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Paint.NET, etc.) to reduce the image to a size appropriate for WDA, I suggest nothing bigger than 200x200 if it's squared, 100x300 if you are using a vertically aligned image or, respectively, 300x100 if it's horizontally aligned. Those numbers above contain information on how many pixels (what all images on your PC consist of) your image contains. If you do not own such program, you can also use this online link (you can click on the "this online link" part which is a so-called anchor + HREF, an anchor [tells your browser that you are accessing a different site] + a Hypertext-Reference, which will lead you to a site where you can resize your pictures by a percentage [be sure you do not put in a percentage higher than 100% since you cannot make images larger than they are through percentual increase] or, more precisely, by pixels).
If you ever feel that you have deficites in using the internet (or if you feel that the internet uses you), you can feel free to PM me.
