| Followed this EVO a lot closer then I ever have because I'm pretty involved with the Smash 4 community locally. Mah boy POW at my locals got 68th in Smash 4 as the highest ranking Pac-Man who went. Was honestly pretty hype to see any number of people from Idaho make it out of pools really, given how much of a non-state we are. Almost went myself, but alas... money.
Nice to see ZeRo not winning every Smash 4 tournament anymore. People are starting to catch up to figuring out the game and everything too safe about Shiek and Diddy Kong has been nerfed. Seeing Megaman place so high is pretty hype but I've always been under the opinion that he's an incredibly underestimated character that's just gone untapped. Ally winning... not surprised? Only sad thing was not seeing a Sonic player hit it big and make it in top cut which is my main and always fun to watch.
Mew2King 5th in Melee, the dream is dead. I really wanted to see him take the crown this time as he's always been my favorite melee player. Once he fell I was really hype to see Plup take it and cause a crazy upset but instead we got exactly what everyone expected.
I hate how FGN treats Smash 4. It had one of the biggest sign ups they've had but it seems to always get the worst time slots and venue. Pools and brackets lasted until midnight and if you made it, be ready to play your match at the crack of dawn, really? And what's with this best two out of three nonsense in top cut? No wonder Mew2King dropped from Smash 4 if he also wanted to play Melee. I know FGN is "doing Smash a favor" by hosting tournaments for them but it's still a bum deal.
Happy to see LI Joe make it as far as he did in Street Fighter. He's not who I would have placed my money on for a US competitor to make it far, but I'm glad he did because he seems like a really cool person.

Smash 4 takes too long so it couldn't be put on Sunday. This is also the reason it had 2 outta 3 "nonsense" going on. Sorry but it just takes too long. Both Smash 4 and Pokken took a long time and pushed back things like Killer Instinct. "Pools and brackets lasted until midnight and if you made it, be ready to play your match at the crack of dawn, really?" Nobody got sleep at EVO expect for the people who lost early, chill. Could Smash 4 have been handled better? Probably. Killer Instinct went from start to finish all on Saturday. Perhaps if KI went for 2 days you could've worked on the time slots for Smash 4. Sadly the worse part of all this is how bad the Smash 4 community is handling all this. I've heard some even want to boycott EVO, "We don't need EVO". Smash gets 2 games at EVO, no series gets 2 games at EVO. EVO also grew a lot bigger than they were expecting and had to go to a new venue so they had a lot of things to deal with. All in all EVO tried hard to make everyone happy with what they had. Smash 4 didn't like what they had and complained. Honesty it makes the Smash 4 community look bad and that other "incident" that happened within the community didn't help matters. Smash 4 will probably get into EVO 2017 cause people need both Smash games apparently and it'll work out better. Finally, yes LI Joe is a very cool person and one of the nicest in the FGC. Cool thing is when his dad found out he made it into Top 8 he got on a plane to Las Vegas that very night to show up at the finals and surprised Joe who had no idea his dad was coming. Side note: Take Pokken out of EVO plsnthx

Side note: Take Pokken out of EVO plsnthx They gave the top players something like 6 hours of sleep, and that's if they went straight to sleep. The reality is, EVO tried to run a 2.5k man bracket in 1 day plus 1 morning. Those conditions are unacceptable regardless of how many people suffer through it, there is no competitor who should have to deal with that, and I'm disregarding smaller issues here like some setups not having certain tournament ruleset stages unlocked, or seeding. Yeah, I get it, EVO has a lot of people, but frankly I can't accept that excuse. Either you can handle a lot of people properly, or you can't. If you can't, you do the responsible thing as a tournament organizer and set an entrant cap. Is saying they won't go next year really a tantrum? Think about it, would you really be motivated to travel to a tournament that would deprive you of sleep after a frantic schedule, have unreliable results due to a stingy ruleset, and then have people call you whiny when you point it out? Maybe for other fighting games it's the big thing of the year, but is that really the case for smash 4? They didn't really get the EVO exposure, they were a morning show, and it's not like they have real results to show for it when your players are doing sleep deprived best of 3s. If they want a big tournament, they have those, they have The Big House 6, Genesis 4, heck even Smash Con is something they can look forward to, all of them tournaments with proper schedules, proper seeding, proper competition. Personally, I'm a melee fan and do not find smash 4 that exciting, other than some big games I was watching the s4 finals as an aside to the PM bracket (which btw got to run their tournament how they wanted since they were a side event in name as well). For melee, I have my minor disagreements with the best of 3 situation, but thankfully the metagame and the skill level of players there is solidified enough to resist the drawbacks of best of 3s in anything other the really close games at the top level, and other than that there were no big issues to my knowledge, and the tournament itself looked great. But I still can't help noticing how badly s4 was handled and how much of a trainwreck it was even leading up to the event itself. It was an organizational blunder on EVO's part, again they tried to clear a 2.5k man bracket in 1.25 days, and it didn't even feel they were that concerned with the monumental task they set themselves up for undertaking. I get that it's convenient to point at smash people and call them entitled, I'm used to it by now, but I'll just point out that EVO did something stupid, it wasn't the first time they did in regards to smash 4 (or other games for that matter) and they won't fix it if we just shrug it off and claim players have to be grateful their game is given the honor of being at EVO. It's pretty much universally known that FGC could give a crap less about Smash in general, try to actually go to Vegas sometime and compete and tell me otherwise. For having pretty much the 2nd to largest turn out, the finals didn't even get a projector for Smash 4. You literally had to sit in the front row or you went back to your hotel room and started the stream to watch it because you couldn't in person if you couldn't actually see the TV they were playing on. Go back and watch the finals, they had to clear people from the alley before the matched started because no one could actually see anything. FGC does not take it seriously as a fighting game but enjoys the foot traffic and revenue it gets by allowing it. Both communities have gone on record to elude to the fact that the only reason Melee got any sort of real time slot is because the professionals have better ties with EVO and FGC. This is not even sort of new, FGC just doesn't like to deal with Smash games. The reason Smash players look bad/embarassing to you is because you don't have to deal with being told that you should go play a "real fighting game", to get your own venue if you care so much and be happy with what you got because your trash party game doesn't belong here. It's that sort of toxic attitude that causes nothing but a crap slinging war back and forth. There's loud, salty butthurt people in every community and you certainly weed out the ones who are exactly that from the Smash community when they have to deal with this. People expect to get sleep when you pool on Friday and do finals on Sunday like Street Fighter 5 and Guilty Gear, with an entire days rest. People can get sleep when your game ends early and starts late like Tekken that ended 7pm on Friday and started again at 9am on Saturday or Melee which went late on Friday and then had evening slots on Saturday and Sunday. Smash 4 went as late as midnight on Friday and you expected to leave, sleep and get back and be ready to play by 8am. This is not "expecting to get little sleep", this is garbage tournament organization. No convention I've ever been to is purposely structured so that no one gets sleep unless they don't care about the program their slotting. I get what you're trying to say Leo but unless you were physically there or know someone who was physically there who competed in multiple games, I don't think you understand how bad it actually was and how little EVO cares about Smash.
