Card Overview: Melia, the Ashwood Nymph

Card Overview: Melia, TheAshwood Nymph 300px-TreeSpiritoftheMeliaes-SHSP-JP-R

Quote :
2 Level 3 EARTH monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then activate 1 of these effects.
● Send 1 Plant-Type monster from your Deck to the Graveyard.
● Target 1 Plant-Type monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target in Defense Position.

Melia is a new Rank 3 Plant-Type Xyz monster coming out in Shadow Specters. She has two powerful effects, both of which will greatly help any Plant deck. First, let's look at her first effect. Detach one Xyz material to send 1 Plant-Type monster straight from the Deck to the Graveyard. This helps Plant decks in many ways. You can send a Dandylion from the Deck to the Grave, use his effect to Special Summon two tokens, then banish Dandylion to Special Summon Spore from the Graveyard. Your field would then be two tokens, Melia, and a Level 4 Spore. From there, you can use Spore and the tokens to summon a Synchro monster.

Now, let's take a look at the second effect. Detach 1 Xyz Material to special summon one Plant-Type monster from your Graveyard in Defense Position. This effect opens many different powerful plays for Plant decks. One of the many plays you can do it would be using the second effect to Special Summon Lonefire Blossom from the Graveyard, then use its effect to Special Summon any Plant-Type monster from your Deck of your choice. Usually you'd summon either Spore or Dandylion, opening up Synchro plays.

If you're using a Gigaplant deck, both of Melias effects become even more powerful. You can use her first effect to send Gigaplant to the Graveyard, then Special Summon it back with a card such as Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders. You could also send a different Plant-Type monster, such as Dandylion or Spore, to the Graveyard, setting your Graveyard up for Gigaplant. The second effect is even better, and the one you will be using the most. If you already have a Gigaplant in your Graveyard, you can use Melia's second effect to Special Summon it to the field in Defense Position, then equip Supervise to Gigaplant, opening up many more powerful plays. If you have a Lonefire Blossom in the Graveyard, you can use Melia's second effect to Special Summon that, then use Lonefire's effect to Special Summon Gigaplant from the Deck.

Does the summoning condition of 2 Level 3 EARTH monsters sound hard to you? It shouldn't, as Crane Crane is a Level 3 EARTH monster that Special Summons any Level 3 monster from your Graveyard in Defense Position, negating its effects, whenever it is Normal Summoned. There are plenty of EARTH Level 3 monsters you can Special Summon with Crane, so that you can summon Melia. Examples include: another Crane Crane, Card Trooper, Spell Striker, and, best of all, Dandylion. If you Special Summon Dandylion with Crane Crane, you can then Xyz Summon Melia, and use one of her effects by detaching Dandylion. Dandylion's effect will then trigger, summoning two tokens.

You can even use Rescue Rabbit to summon Melia. Your two Normal Monsters that you will be summoning from Rescue Rabbit will be Jerry Beans Man, and Tune Warrior. Jerry Beans Man is a Level 3 EARTH Plant-Type Normal Monster with 1750 ATK and 0 DEF.  Notice the fact that he has 0 DEF? That means he can be summoned back from the Graveyard by Masked Chameleon, which will allow you to then go for a level 7 Synchro monster, such as Black Rose Dragon. 1750 ATK is also pretty high for a Level 3 monster. Tune Warrior may not be a Plant-Type monster, but it's Level 3, EARTH, and a Tuner. Since it's a Tuner, you can Special Summon it back from the Graveyard with Crane Crane, then either go for a Rank 3 Xyz, such as Melia, or a Level 6 Synchro monster. Since they are both EARTH monsters, you could summon Naturia Barkion, which would be a great help, protecting your explosive plays from your opponents Trap cards.
