| As the title says I need to create a Greek myth revolving around the god of the sea,Poseidon. I hae an outline an a list of plots however I am having trouble creating why "natural events" happen or at least creating a moral. | |

| Indicating that this is a common freshman assignment amongst highschoolers, I have right to assume your creativity level is non-existent. Aside from scientific explanation, you can pretty much BS this assignment and elaborate on this: natural events such as tsunamis and pregnancies happen because of the emotions of the divine gods. You can make your assignment a whole lot easier if you just base your story off of the emotions of the gods in a 3rd person (omniscient) perspective. To lead it all up to a moral (besides blaming natural events on fictional gods,) you can merely say that stealing people's stuff is an objective wrong in this world. (Yea, have some hobo steal Poseidon's ring or something and have that hobo's village destroyed by a storm. Have him be tortured by Poseidon and then lead up to the hobo getting cursed or the likes.) |

| Imo there are only 2 things you need to remember about it (as in, when working on greek gods, in regards to their special traits as deities) and the rest is creativity. Greek deities all suffer from a grand case of anthropomorphism, meaning they act merely as humans with divine powers, they carry all human mental traits including level of thought (despite carrying a greater level of knowledge or wisdom, the level of thought is not adressed in a way it is adressed for omnipotent deities in other religions), weaknesses, even vices, they can be vengeful, petty, etc. and ofc it goes the other way around as well, them getting the positive human traits. For example if you had the human do Poseidon's daughter or something and then Poseidon killing him for it, that would work just fine for Greek mythology (although not exactly in this case since if I remember correct all of Poseidon's offsprings should be male, and large ones at that usually, while Amphitrite instead, his wife, is female enough).
Second is that no one can escape fate, not even gods. Gods have to abide by the "commands" of the Fates as well.
Thirdly, as armand said, the rest is on you, it's not like they are looking for an expert on greek mythology to give them a history report, its a writing exercise, focus on what's important.
Lastly, get your RP match done.

| The Greek gods were believed to be very jealous gods as well, they were said to require the praises and devotion of humans to sustain their power (that's something recent Greek god movies actually got right) As Armand and Al have said the gods had human emotions and feelings, if someone insulted them directly (through their actions or trying to turn others against them) the gods would go out of their way to punish them, some more directly than others, Zeus would sleep with influential men's wives making them pregnant to show his Godly power over the man, he even slept with one man's wife whilst disguised as a bull just to spite him since he was disregarding the gods (that's how the Minotaur was created)
Whilst it has been said that gods acted with human emotion, Poseidon was actually a rather merciful god as far as Greek gods when, yes he was believed to be the one who killed fisherman and boat traveller's but aside from that he wasn't seen as a vengeful god so it would be hard for you to write something about him getting revenge on someone when that would be partially out of character for him
