Fate/Grand Order

Fate/Grand Order is a shiny new(over a year old actually) Japanese phone game that has dominated our lovely chatbox as of late so I saw it imperative to make a thread. Why should you play this untranslated time waster, some of you may ask? Because it's actually fairly fun(Nour enjoying it despite not being a fan of the series is proof) and you do not need to know the Fate/ series very well, or Japanese at all, to get into this although it may help. Also because the summer event is currently going on and you can get this as a free servant. If that's not enough incentive I don't know. I guess you can join in on the discussions.

You'll start off with a tutorial that lasts a few battles and is piss-easy to complete although whether you'll learn anything from it is questionable. The first link is recommended reading once you finish the tutorial and you will know this when the game stops handholding you and you can actually do something. Note that while going through the tutorial, you will get to roll 10 cards for free. Look carefully at the 4* Servant card(s) you get, because chances are you'll be sticking with it for a while. If you don't know what 'servant cards' are, read the bloody thing.

The second and third links are the only links you'll really need once you understand how to play. Unless you can read Japanese you'll be looking up servants and craft essences from there. Now you can join the rest of us in rolling shit cards and crying about it. The last two links are fun reading and also recommended.

For those playing, feel free to post stuff, like shitty rolls or rants about the beach event eating up AP.

and some story mode called FGO 1.5 is beginning soon, sorta as an inbetween before the next big story thing.

Once upon a time, in a distant land, there was a little girl who liked a little phone game named "Fate/Grand Order". She always referred to the game as a "shitty mobage", but in her heart was a passion for such a "mobage". On the last day of January, the final part of the game's new event had been released. The little girl was excited, considering the fine award of 3 summon tickets. "That's, like, almost nine quartz!" she thought. "I might even roll something decent!"

Before actually starting up this new challenge, the little girl decides to visit 4reddit to get even an idea of what's to come. The challenge seemed to be actually difficult, featuring seven waves of very sturdy servants of varied classes, including Sabers, Lancers, Assassins, Riders, Casters, Berserkers, Rulers, And Avengers. What's more is that there were no Archer opponents; a clear bias against Lancers.

The little girl wasn't very clever; she didn't actually read the list and only read the fact that there were seven waves of varied servants. She didn't know what servants to use; "What if I use Mashu, Merlin, and Waver?" An idea sparked "It's a team that can win against anything!" It was only ten minutes later that the little girl would regret her decisions, and her slow fall into despair would begin.


While it was a proper lineup, it was slow. Watching a chain of unskippable NPs every other turn, slowly chipping away at 200,000 HP servants... these are the events that eventually drive people to despair. The little girl, however, didn't give in. "This IS a proper lineup, and it WILL work." This thought gave her hope.

The little girl had won against Phantom of the Opera, Fergus, Caligula, two Gilles, and a Jeanne, but her journey was far from over. At wave 6, she finds herself against another Jeanne and Amakusa. The little girl had never heard of Amakusa in a game-play sense, so she looked up his Noble Phantasm. It was a very, very dangerous one considering the little girl's situation.

Amakusa's Noble Phantasm dispelled all enemy buffs and dealt damage to all servants. Considering the fact that the little girl had cleared the past five waves using only buffs, this was a major problem. She knew she had no way to avoid this attack. Mashu's defense skills were rendered pointless, and so were Waver's. Merlin's team-invinciblity was rendered useless, and so was David's.

The little girl had not given up, however--

The little girl had thoughts of using a Saint Quartz or such to revive her team after she lost; she had given into defeat and finally fallen into despa- Or not!!! She used her plug-suit to switch out Merlin for King Hassan! King Hassan takes the blow, and Waver bites the dust! Mashu, our lovely Shielder and glorious best kouhai, TANKS the hit. The aftermath? Mashu survives with 500 HP! Merlin survives unscathed! And Cu tags in! Amakusa is defeated before he can use his Noble Phantasm again!!! And Jeanne is easily wiped, because she's a LOSER who can only give invinciblity+stun to herself!!!

Wave 7 arrives! The little girl is up against a 500,000 HP Dantes. Somehow, this battle was not as difficult as she had expected. At one point, the little girl switched David in so she could use his team invincbility. David bit the dust, and the only survivors of this fearsome, arduous quest were Mashu, Merlin, and Cu.


The little girl received great awards for her endurance, her strength, and her questionable wit. She can proudly tell everyone that she won; that she beat the Prison Tower Rerun Challenge Quest. She was a winner. She could say that she was a winner. She... should have been a winner?

The little girl looks back on her journey. Her strength drained, and her mind broken-- "Was it worth it? I could have quit mid-way and tried a different lineup" The little girl uses up her three tickets, giving her three-star servants once more. Another luckless night.


Was it worth the 114 turns? The 114 minutes-- roughly two hours of Noble Phantasms?

The little girl probably knows the answer, but she will ask nonetheless, hoping for a "Yes" in search of solace.
