I'm sure by now you have heard of the success of dive kick which is a game that in a way takes fighting games down to their basics and is thus so successful. Following that path, Purin to Ohuro is as you can tell a fighting game which takes fighting games down to their, primal I may even say, basics. Regardless it is not a game that stays there but instead it goes further to innovate the fighting game scene. While in other fighting games you get your contemporary boring fighting arenas, Purin to Ohuro dares to take that step forward and place you in the bathtub to not only give you a fresh experience but also to ensure you have a clean fight. But it doesn't stop there, as it adds interesting characters that are able to evoke emotions in you (which emotions those are is irrelevant) as well as give you a real sense of progression and purpose through their expressions.
The fighting mechanics are solid despite the limited options. A stamina meter forces you to be strategic about your attacks while the charge option with varying effects broadens your punish potential with just the mouse input. Guarding is simple yet complicated; to avoid damage from your opponent's attacks you have to look upwards. While you are able to dodge like that, you cannot see your opponent to know when it is possible to resume your attacks. The opponent will also often go back into guarding, taking less damage, forcing you to wait for an opening if you wish to go for the optimal attack. A score and timer system rewards skill; to enhance your performance in regards to the score, you have to score hits specifically on the chest area as no other gives points, and a guarded chest area will actually give less points, so to maximize your score you have to avoid hitting the opponent's guard completely. To achieve that you may hit another area to change their guard but that would harm your score, so the only option available is to wait for the opponent to go in the offensive and deliver a skillful counterattack. At the same time you cannot look up all the time as the timer does not lie. You cannot try to trade hits either as the AI is merciless while on the offensive in addition to being able to hit for higher damage than you, in fact without proper pacing and guarding it is easy to lose the fight.
Searching for Purin to Ohuro on youtube will actually provide you with a bunch of gameplay results despite the game being actually new and without any promotion in the west, which if nothing else is a testament to the quality of the title. It is the general consensus of the internet community at the moment that Purin to Ohuro is in fact the game of the year 2013 (youtube comments say so, they are always right) and the top competitive fighting game as of now. Reliable sources state it is already decided that for EVO 2014 MvC will be replaced with the multiplayer version of Purin to Ohuro, a decision which is met with universal approval from the fighting game community. The prevailing rumour is that in the upcoming multiplayer version both players will be playing as oppai lolis instead of one assuming the part of the headless onii-chan.
It should be noted that even though it is a title already met with such universal acclaim, it is merely an indie game developed by *insert unintelligible Japanese here* on Unity3d and most shockingly of all, it is only a demo of the actual upcoming title! The full title is now expected to revolutionalize gaming.
