| Chapter 1: Distributed Dragons - Spoiler:
“Dude! I can’t believe we’re done with middle school already!” shouted a red-haired boy, his eyes matched a shade of deep, blood-red ruby, his skin was dark and he had a scar over his left cheek, he was sprinting down the road, many feet ahead of his friends walking with him, a dark haired boy with shining blue eyes, and a brown haired girl with deep emerald eyes. Both had a tan shade of skin, and were walking side-by-side. “Hurry up guys!” he shouted, turning back to them.
“Why are you always in such a rush Axle?” sighed the young girl, “It’s not like your Grandpa’s card shop is going anywhere.”
“But he said he’s got a surprise for all of us Emily! I wanna hurry up and get there already!” shouted Axle, he hated waiting, especially when he wanted to go somewhere.
“Calm down man, we’ll get there.” Replied the dark haired boy, his hands were covered with scars from working in gardens.
“I know but you guys are going to slow!” shouted Axle, about to break into a run again.
“Or maybe you’re going too fast…” said Emily, shuffling her feet along the path.
“GAH!” Axle let out a sigh and slowed down, allowing the two to catch up. “So Riku, are you finally going to ditch that broken old plant deck you used all through middle school?”
“Please. My Plants are beautiful and majestic, much better than your barbaric Dark Worlds.” Retorted Riku, defending his plant deck.
“Barbaric!? My Dark Worlds are powerful and mythical, you’re just jealous because you were the 2nd best duelist in the school.”
“Grr…” Riku’s pride was getting attacked, he didn’t like it. “Right here, right now! Let’s duel!”
“Hah! Thought you’d never ask!” Axle turned on his duel disk, it was the basic academy issue, it matched Riku’s.
“Boys will be boys…” sighed Emily, sitting down between the two, watching the duel.
“Alright, I’ll take the first draw!” shouted Riku, and I’ll begin by summoning Lonefire Blossom, but you know its effect already, I sacrifice it to summon Giga Plant!” The grotesque looking monster appeared in front of Riku, staring down Axle. “And with that I’ll set 2 cards and end my turn.”
“And just HOW is THAT thing “Majestic” Riku?” mocked Axle, jokingly.
“You know, he has a point Riku-kun, that thing is very ugly.”
“That’s because you don’t know how to see its true beauty.” He sighed. “It lies in its potential, not its appearance.”
“Man, you sure do talk a lot.” Axle laughed, “I activate the spell card, Dark World Dealings! Each of us draw one card, then, discard one card.”
“I know your card effects bro, we’ve been dueling with these decks since elementary.”
“I know, but some people may not.” Replied Axle with a poker face.
“Huh? Did something just shatter?” said Emily, poking her head up.
“I discard Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World!”
“And that brings him to the field. Seriously, I know your deck like the back of my hand.”
“Shut up and let me talk will ya? I then activate Gates of Dark World! You all know what this does.”
“Theres that shattering noise again!” spoke Emily, looking around
“Goldd, attack his Gigaplant!” Axle was sure this duel was going to be his.
“Ha, you really think I would allow myself to be attacked so easily? I activate my trap card, Dimensional Prison!”
“Awh, damn.” Said Axle, watching his Goldd disappear from the field, “You had to do that?”
“Well yeah.” Interrupted Emily, “You think he would let you destroy his monster?”
“Well I wasn’t hoping he would destroy mine! I set 1 monster, and 2 cards face down, I end my turn.” Axle was irritated, he was so sure his attack would go through.
“You never think during duels Axle, that’s why you won’t win. I summon Naturia Cherries!” called out Riku as the twin cherries appeared on the field, “Now… lets see how you handle this…”
“He summoning HER” though Emily, scooting back a bit.
“I tune my Naturia Cherries to my Giga Plant, Black Petals scatter in the moonlight, merge and form the true beauty of a rose, awaken, Black Rose Dragon!” The majestic creature appeared in a hellstorm of rose petals, its guttural roar caused the ground to quake. “I then activate its effect, destroying all cards on the field.”
“Damn…” thought Axle, watching his trap cards, Dimensional Prison, and Deck Devastation Virus disappear. “I know where this is going… monster reborn…”
“I then activate monster reborn!” continued Riku, resummoning the dragon. “Now, Black Rose Dragon, attack his life points directly!”
“Ahh hell!” shouted Axle, shielding himself from the dragon’s attack, the life point counter on his disk dropping to 5600.
“Your turn Axle.” Said Riku, setting a card face down.
“Alright… I need to get that dragon off the field…” he thought. “Okay… I activate the effect of Gates of Dark World.” He banished his Goldd, then sent a Grapha to the graveyard. “Grapha’s effect activates, destroying your Black Rose Dragon!”
“Tch… Such a shame.” Grumbled Riku as he watched his dragon explode.
“It’s not over yet, I summon Broww, Huntsman of Dark World! But he’s not goona stick around, I’ll return him to my hand to special summon Grapha to the field. The gates open to reveal the wicked realm, come forth the master of the dark, Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark Word!” In a dense fog, Grapha arose out of the ground, slamming down with force as he landed. A drop of sweat trickled down Riku’s brow, he never liked seeing the monster from the sidelines, much less when it was staring him in the face.
“Gah! I hate that thing, it’s so grotesque.” Riku tried to hide the fact that the dragon terrified him.
“Grapha! Attack him directly!” shouted Axle, the giant dragon reared his head back, firing a purple beam of energy, Riku had to shield his eyes from the attack, the counter on his disk dropped to 5000.
“Heh, that was a good turn, but it won’t last.” Replied Riku, drawing his card. “I activate the spell card, Dark Hole!” Axle’s dragon was sucked into the black void that appeared on the field. “I then activate my face-down, call of the haunted, to bring back Black Rose Dragon!”
“Oh man…” thought Axle, he knew he was done for.
“I then summon Rescue Rabbit, and use its effect, I banish it to special summon 2 Bean Soldiers! I then overlay them, summoning #39 Utopia!” The glowing warrior arose out of the Xyz pathway, pointing his sword straight at Axle, Riku was about to call the attack when they heard a call from over the hill.
“Axle, Riku, Emily!” called an old man, about 6 feet tall, with a scruffy grey beard.
“Grandpa!” called Axle, as the monsters disappeared.
“Hey, I was wondering what was taking you so long. So I came looking for you.” Continued the scruffy man, running towards them.
“So Grandpa, what did you have for us?” asked Axle, meeting the old man in front of a bridge.
“Well yes, with school being out and you guys going into the Duel Academy next week, I decided to get you 3 presents. I had to pull a few strings, and call in some favors, but I got each of you your own one-of-a-kind decks.” He concluded with a huge smile.
“Our own custom decks!?” shouted Emily, running over next to Riku.
“Wow, thank you so much Grandpa!” shouted Axle, jumping for joy.
“Yes, your welcome, now, Axle, here you go.” He handed Axle a black deckbox with an elaborate, blood red pentagram, Riku’s was a red box, that had a black rose imprinted on the front. He handed Emily a sky blue box, with a crossing magic staff and sword.
“Wow awesome!” shouted Axle, “But why does it have a pentagram on it?” He wondered, worriedly.
“Well, that’s because you use fiends very well, however, the Dark World type was holding you back, so I had Pegasus create the Hellions, modeled after your mastery of fiends.
“I’m guessing mine has something to do with Black Rose Dragon?” said Riku, examining his box.
“Why yes, and entire archetype built around that dragon.” Replied Axle’s Grandpa.
“And seeing how you already have your sign- errr… Signature Dragon, I felt it was time to give Axle and Emily’s theirs. They’re ready for it.” He handed Axle a synchro dragon, it was black with blood red running through it. To Emily he gave a serene looking dragon, it had a blue to it that was calming. “Axle, Emily, these dragons I am giving you are special, protect these cards with your life. Axle, you are given the Red Dragon Archfiend, it is the strongest of the 6, and most deadly. Iris, you are given the Ancient Fairy Dragon, she is the most effective of the 6, easily protecting and recovering your life points. Riku… you hold the Black Rose Dragon, the most beautiful of the 6, its power alone can wipe your opponents away. You three, use these dragons in your decks, and you will see their importance.”
“But Axle’s grandpa, you still haven’t explained my deck!” called Emily, with a huge grin.
“Oh, yes, you are given the Spellblades, this spellcaster/warrior archetype is extremely versatile, they rely on both Xyz summoning and Synchro summoning.”
“Grandpa, what did you mean by “The Six”?” asked Axle, eyeing the new dragon.
“You’ll find out someday, for now, let’s head back to my game shop.” The 4 headed back over the hill and towards Axle’s grandpa’s game shop.
Chapter 2: Midnight Memories - Spoiler:
The next couple of weeks passed by quickly for the three, they dueled and learned their new cards, Riku was the first to adapt to his new deck, creating countless ways to summon Black Rose Dragon, Emily was next, mastering the task of using spellcasters and warriors together. By the time the three were packed and ready for the academy, Axle was still struggling with his Hellions. His grandpa had tried to help him with them, but his stubbornness got in the way. Riku has offered help, but it was turned down. Emily, not knowing much about fiends, still tried to help, but was turned away by his frustration.
"There's got to be something I can do with these cards…" thought Axle, donning a tank top and boxers, sitting on the floor with his cards spread in front of him. "Okay, so there's the VastLords, Archdemons, and the Fallen Angels…" He continued, picking up a card with the picture of a demonic dog on it. "Hellion Hound…" he placed it back down, picking up another, "Hellion Succubus, this card could come in handy… And why does Pegasus have to make these women so…. Endowed…" he placed the card back down and stared at the spread. "I think I can do something with these…" He grew a smirk on his face, and, putting the cards back into his deck case, threw himself onto his bed, lying on his back. He stared at the ceiling for what seemed like hours, he just couldn't fall asleep. Rolling over and staring at the wall didn't help either. He hopped out of bed, and, throwing a jacket and some jeans on he grabbed his deck and duel disk, and snuck out his window, he hopped down from the 2nd story of his house and landed in his front lawn. "Like a ninja." He whispered to himself. He took off running and found himself at the field that Riku and him always dueled at. He sat down on a bench, wondering why he felt the urge to run here, he turned and layed down, putting his hands behind his head.
"I could have sworn I heard…. Something…. Calling me" he thought back to when he was laying in his bed, but his though process was cut short by a tap on the forehead, he opened his eyes and saw two emerald eyes and brown hair staring back. "Emily… what are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same question." Replied Emily, taking a step back from Axle. "You heard it too huh?"
"Yeah, but… what was it…?" replied Axle, staring at the sky.
"I don't know, but whatever it is, it brought all 3 of us here for a reason." Said Riku, approaching the two.
"Riku!" shouted Emily, quickly covering her mouth, turning red from embarrassment. "I don't know why that was so loud!" she said through her hands.
"It's okay, we're all here, and I don't know why…"
"Oi, Riku, what do you think Duel Academy is gonna be like?" asked Axle, adjusting his headband.
"Well, from what my brother has told me, it's a great school, although some of the people are cocky there." Replied Riku, sitting down next to Emily, and scooting closer, making her blush hard, causing Axle to chuckle and smirk.
"Heh, you guys remember the day we met?" said Axle, switching from the bench to the grass.
"Yeah… 3rd grade…" replied Riku, remembering that year. "Our first fight too."
"Haha, look at the little cry baby!" shouted a boy with bright orange hair on the playground, poking a young girl who had deep emerald eyes with a stick. "Come on cry baby! Summon your monster!"
"Leave me alone!" shouted the young girl. Out of left field came a boy with dark hair, shoulder charging the boy with the stick, knocking him down
"Hey! What was that for!" shouted the ginger, climbing up off the ground
"Did you not hear her?" called another kid, this one with dark, ruby red hair and blood red eyes. "She said stop."
"Why don't you two mind your own business." Replied the boy.
"Why don't you mind yours." Replied the dark haired boy, walking over to the girl. "Are you okay?"
"Y… Yeah…" she said through teary eyes and a quivery voice.
"He won't be bothering you anymore." Said the red haired boy, walking over to the two. "and if he even tries it, just give us a call."
"By the way, what's your names?" asked the red haired girl.
"I am Riku Sena." Said the black haired boy with a bow.
"Name's Axle Jacobi!" he said, pointing at himself with his thumb.
"I'm Emily Watson." Replied the girl, wiping her eyes.
"Hey! Who do you two think you are?" called 3 boys from across the playground.
"Umm.. I'm Axle, and this is Riku." Said Axle with a poker face.
"Yeah, well you beat up our friend, so we're gonna beat you up!"
"Well, bring it on!" shouted the young Axle. The three boys charged at them, being met by a fist to their faces by Axle and Riku. The three quickly fell to the ground, crying. Not soon after the teacher came running onto the playground, screaming bloody murder.
"What happened here you two?" she screamed, helping the boys up.
"They punched us!" screamed one of the boys, his voice wet with tears.
"Why! Is this true?"
"We were protecting ourselves and Emily Miss." Said Riku in almost a knightly manner.
"Ma'am…" said Emily, walking over to the teacher, "They saved me from these bullies."
"Well… you should have told me." Replied the teacher. "Axle, Riku, come with me to the principal's office."
"Awh man!" said Axle under his breath, trudging along with Riku to the office.
"Good times." Said Axle, checking his watch. "Did you guys know its 5:00 AM?"
"Yep." Replied Emily.
"Mhmm. But I couldn't sleep anyway, so, we should all head back, grab our stuff and meet back here?" asked Riku, helping Emily of the bench "I'll walk you home."
"Thanks." She replied through a blush.
"I'll meet your guys back here." Replied Axle, bolting to his house and packing his bags, he waited by the field for the two, "its official, their lovebirds." He said to himself as the two walked over the ridge. "Come on you two, lets go!" he grabbed his bags and bolted towards the ferry docks, followed by Riku and Emily. The three flashed their tickets and boarded the ferry to Duel Academy Island.
"Attention duelists, its going to be a long boat ride, so, sit back, and relax and enjoy the trip."
"AWWWW YEAH!" Shouted Axle, as he dove into the pool off of a diving board, trying to show off for the girls on the boat. "So what you think of that ladies?" he said slyly, swimming to the edge of the pool.
"Oi! Axle!" shouted a voice that he hadn't heard in a while.
"NO WAY!" Axle shouted, hopping out of the pool.
Chapter 3: Battle on a Boat - Spoiler:
Emily and Riku we're laying by the pool, relaxing and soaking up the sun. Axle was talking to an old friend, with whome he had just discovered would be attending Duel Academy as well.
"So… Riku…" said Emily, twirling her hair around her finger.
"What's up?" replied Riku, opening up his right eye to Emily.
"I was just thinking, what if we get placed into the same dorm?" she asked as Riku took a drink of his water. "Do you think they'd let u be roomates?" Riku choked on the water, eyes wide, trying to respond to this question. "Are you okay?" she asked, grabbing a towel and wiping his chin.
"Uhh… yeah… I just uhh… wasn't expecting that kind of question is all." Riku was flustered, he didn't know how to respond to this question "Uhh… I don't think so… cause ya know, I'm a guy, and well you're a girl."
"Yeah, I just wanted to see your reaction to that question, and it was perfect." She said, taking off her cover-up, revealing the bikini beneath, it was red with black roses designed on it. "Do you like it?" At this point Riku was as red as her bikini, flustered, he scrambled for words.
"Uhh yeah! I mean, it looks good on you." He tried to look in every which direction except at her. She just smirked and dove in the water.
"Come on Riku, the waters great!"
"Sure, why not." Riku took off his shirt, sshowing a tanned body and scarred hands, he took two steps then gracefully dove into the water. Across the ship, Axle was catching up with an old friend.
"Oh man, Adrian, I can't believe its you!" said Axle, shaking Adrian's hand, shocked to see him.
"I should say the same. I see your hair is as spiky as always." Replied Adrian, a 6'6" tan kid with black hair and brown eyes. "How's your dueling? Still as weak as ever?"
"Oh please, I could mop the floor with you now." Replied Axle, grabbing his deck, "Wanna give these people a show?"
"Why not?" he replied, grabbing his deck and following Axle to the arena, pressed the call button, alerting everyone to the duel.
"A duel? Said Riku, looking at the board out by the deck, seeing Axle and Adrian's pictures on the screen. "Axle would get into a duel now." He continued with a sigh. "Shall we go check it out Emily?" he hopped out the pool and extended a hand to help Emily out, the two headed to the arena, and headed down next to Axle. The Arena on the boat was an old style, duelist kingdom arena. Axle and Adrian stood on either side, ready to duel.
"Looks like everyone's here, I'll start things off." Said Axle, drawing his card. "I'll summon Hydrogeddon in attack mode! I then set two cards face down, and end my turn."
"Still running Dino's I see." Said Axle with a smirk, drawing his card, a smirk appeared on his face. "I summon Hellion Succubus!" the monster appeared on the field, spreading its wings wide.
"What is that?" shouted Adiran, "I thought you played Dark Worlds?"
"Well, I updated my playstyles, maybe you should too" he replied with a chuckle. "I activate Succubus' effect! I take control of your Hydrogeddon!"
"What! You can't be serious?" called Adrian, when did you get such a good deck?"
"A gift from my Grandpa, I then overlay My Succubus and my new Hydrogeddon to Xyz summon the Archfiend Urabia!" The massive demon appeared on the field, in a hellstorm of swirling spirits. "I then activate my spell card, Sacrifice! I can discard 1 card, and add 1 level 4 or lower Hellion monster from my deck to my hand. I then set 2 cards, and end my turn."
"Well that was quite the turn." Replied Adrian, "I summon rescue rabbit! But he won't be around for long, because I banish him to special summon 2 Sabersaurus'! I then overlay the two to Xyz summon Evolzar Laggia!" the six winged dragon roared, announcing its presence. "Laggia, attack!" Laggia shot toward Urabia, nose pointed at its heart.
"I activate the trap card, Dimensional Prison! Banishing your Laggia!" shouted Axle, countering Adrian's attack as a crowd grew around the arena.
"Axle," shouted Riku from the floor. "Remember Laggia's effect! It can negate any spell, trap, or monster summon!"
"He's right, I negate your trap, by detaching 2 Xyz materials from Laggia! Negating your trap!" Laggia pierced Urabia, shattering it as it did and dropping Axles life points from 8000 to 7800.
"Tch… I draw." I activate Hellion I can special summon this card from the graveyard, but he loses 800 attack points. So come on out! Hellion Shadow!" The masked creature was summoned to the field, green poison dripping from his claw. I then summon Hellion Hound! And by his effect I can special summon another Hellion Hound!" Two demonic dogs rose up to the field. I then tune Hellion Hound and Hellion Shadow to synchro summon VastLord Ovial!" a torrent of black water flooded the field, Ovial split the waves, slamming onto the ground.
"Well then, lets see what's going on here." Said Riku "Has he finally gotten a grasp of his deck?"
"I then activate his ability!" Axle continued, "I pay 1000 attack points, and I can special summon 2 level 4 or lower Hellion monsters from my grave! Come on back Hellions Hound and Shadow!"
"Uh-oh, this isn't good!" though Adrian with a look of concern on his face.
"I then sync them together to summon another Ovial! I then overlay them to Xyz summon the Master of Death! Death dances in the moonlight, and trumpets sound the Fall. Interlace to greet the Harbringer of destruction! Xyz summon. Appear now Archdemon Ballom!" the massive demon appeared in a swirl of bitch black feathers, the master of death spread his wings wide, and let out a guttural roar. "I activate his ability, detaching 1 Xyz material to return 2 cards on the field to your hand."
"This REALLY isn't good!" Adrian was sweating bullets, he had never seen something like that, it was terrifying.
"But I'm not done yet! I activate Hellion Summoning, by paying 2000 life points, I can special summon 1 Hellion monster from my hand, deck, or grave. I summon Hellion Executioner! I then activate hellion Shadow's eff, special summoning him from the grave, I tune my Executioner to my Shadow, synchro summoning the strongest VastLord, Uriziya! I have Ballom, at 3200 attack, and Uriziya at 2700 attack. I equip my other Hellion Hound with the equip card, Overpowered! Giving him an extra 1000 every battle phase!"
"Looks like he's finally done it." Thought Riku, "He's mastered his deck." There were cheers from the crowd, awed at the sight they were seeing, 3 powerful monsters, staring down Adrian. He had a look of terror, he knew he had lost.
"Uriziya! Attack Laggia with Interdimensional Flare!" Uriziya launched an electric ball of dark energy, slamming into Laggia and destroying it. "Next up, Hound, attack him directly!" The devilish dog launched at Adrian, taking a chomp out of him and his lifepoints. "Now, Ballom, end this with Death's Fury Strike!" Ballom nodded, acknowledging his master, and flew forth, slicing away the rest of Adrian's life points. As the counter hit zero, people began to cheer, amazed at this duelists skills. "Good duel Adrian." Said Axle, meeting Adrian in the middle
"You too, glad to see you've improved. I should too." Replied the defeated duelist, shaking Axle's hand.
"Wow… when did Axle get so good with his Hellions?" said Emily.
"I don't know, but he's got them down." Replied Riku.
"Attention duelists. We will be arriving at Duel Academy Island shortly. Please grab your belongings and wait to the signal to unboard.
"Well would you look at that, we're almost there." Said Riku. "Our High School years begin."
Chapter 4: The Test of the Star - Spoiler:
The boat glided calmly into the harbor, the captain announced their arrival and wished the students luck on their studies. Riku, Axle, and Emily departed the boat and followed the crowd into the testing hall.
"Welcome students!" announced a rather large man, with a scruffy 5 o'clock shadow. "With the beginning of a new year, you guys are beginning a new chapter in your lives, yadda yadda yadda, I know you guy don't care about that stuff, so let's get the testing underway shall we? Each of you will be tested on your dueling abilities, for those of you that do extremely well, are placed into the Stardust White, those who do moderately well will be placed into the Red Dragon Black dorm, and subsequently, those who do poorly shall be placed into Black Rose Red. Now for those of you who are wondering, this academy was originally Obelisk Blue, Ra Yellow, and Slifer Red, however, after the Arc Cradle incident, we renamed these classes after the signer dragons, Stardust Dragon, Red Dragon Archfiend, and Black Rose Dragon."
"Woah! Stardust, Red Dragon and Black Rose?" said Emily "And what's a signer?"
"I don't know, no one ever told us this, I wonder why." Replied Riku
"Me either…" replied Axle, scratching his head
"Without further ado… let the testing begin!" the announcer left the students begin their test. One by one they were being placed into dorms, "Adrian Arronte, Stardust White." Called the announcer.
"Yeah! Good job Adrian!" Shouted Axle, "I'll see you there!"
"Next up, Emily Watson!" called the announcer, Emily's eyes widened with shock, she couldn't move, her whole body was frozen with nervousness.
"I… I can't…" she whispered, loud enough so Riku could hear it.
"What?" he asked.
"I… I can't go up there… I'm not like you and Axle, I can't duel in front of a crowd!" she continued
"Look, you'll do fine! There's nothing to worry about." Reassured Axle, patting her on the shoulder. "I gotta go to the bathroom. See ya guys." Axle walked away, knowing what Riku was planning. "Heh… good luck bro…" he thought.
"No… I'm…. just gonna leave… I'll just take the next fer-" she was cut off by Riku's lips pressing against hers, her eyes almost popped out of her head from sheer shock.
"You'll do fine…" reassured Riku, as he broke their kiss. "Now go out there and kick some ass." Emily, her face as red as ever, just nodded and walked onto the arena stage.
"Ready miss?" asked the instructor, turning on his disk. "Testee goes first"
"Alright. I draw! I summon Korina, the Spear! I then activate her special ability, I can special summon 1 level 3 Warrior type monster from my deck." Continued Emily, "I special summon XX-Saber Fulhelmknight! I then tune my Fulhelmknight to Korina the Spear to synchro summon the Swordmaster Akira!" the golden armored clad warrior appeared on the field, in a shining fury, whipping up a whirlwind with her sword. "I then activate her ability, adding 1 level 4 or lower Warrior type monster from my deck to my hand. I add Torapart! I then set 2 cards face down and end my turn."
"Alright! Draw!" said the proctor. "I summon Elemental HERO Neos Alius! I then activate the spell card Gemeni Spark! I can tribute Neos Alius to destroy 1 card you control!"
"While Akria is face-up on the field, Warrior-type monsters cannot be destroyed by card effects!"
"Who said I'm targeting her?" responded the proctor with a sly grin on his face "I target your left facedown."
"Damn…" thought Emily, watching her Dimensional Prison be destroyed. "That was my defense."
"I then discard my Elemental Hero Captain Gold from my hand to add 1 Skyscraper card from my hand. I then activate the spell card Miracle Fusion, banishing Captain Gold and Neos Alius from my grave to summon Elemental HERO The Shining! And with his special ability, he gains an additional 300 attack points for every Elemental HERO monster removed from play, and I count 2 so that's 3200 attack!"
"Not a chance." Repliec Emily. "I activate my trap card, Solemn Warning, by paying 2000 life points, I can negate the summon of a monster." She ssaid as her life point counter dropped to 6000.
"My my, what a smart move, waiting until I fusioned to activate that card when you could have activated it when I summoned Alius. I place 2 cards face down, and end my turn."
"I draw! And I summon Dyssida, the Ice! I then activate her effect, special summoning Magician's Valkyria! I then overlay the two to Xyz summon Spellmaster Aria!" The spellcater appeared, surrounded by lightning, greeted by her warrior counterpart.
"Wha? Spellcasters AND Warriors? I've never heard of such a deck!" called the proctor, astonished.
"I call them SpellBlades. Their a mix of warriors and spellcasters. Now! Attack both of you!" The two nodded and launched themselves at the tester, who smirked and activated a trap, magical cylinder, the two attacks bounced back, dealing 4800 damage to Emily, dropping her life points to 1200. "How could I fall for a trap like that so easily!" she thought.
"Oh no!" thought Riku. "Emily! Just focus! You'll do fine! Remember your cards strengths! You can do this!" he shouted, cheering her on.
"He's right." She looked at her hand. "I have a combo for next turn, but I have to hold out." She thought. "I place 2 cards face down and end my turn!"
"I'll finish this duel quickly." Said the tester.
"I activate Waboku! My monsters cannot be destroyed by battle, nor do I take damage this turn." Said Emily.
"Very smart… I guess since I can't do anything I'll set one monster and end my turn."
"Draw!" shouted Emily, a smirk growing on her face. "I activate Heavy Storm!"
"Next turn I'll activate my face down and- WHAT?" shouted the instructor, watching his trap cards get blown away. "Damn…"
"I activate Monster reborn, special summoning Cysseria, the Lightning! I then summon Debris Dragon!"
"What? A Dragon too?" shouted the tester
"I then tune them to summon-" she heard a feint roar come from her extra deck, "Oh yeah, I have you." She thought. "Mr. Tester, have you ever seen Stardust Dragon?"
"No, but I would have loved too, no one knows what happened to the Signer Dragons." Replied the tester.
"I then activate Forbidden Chalice, negating Debris' effect, allowing me to synchro summon with another level 4 monster!"
"No way! That's impossible!" shouted the tester in protest, he wasn't going to have the fact that she was probably going to win.
"I synchro summon! Stardust Dragon!" the stadium grew silent as the majestic dragon appeared, showering the field with stardust.
"I…. I don't believe my eyes…." Said the announcer, just as stunned as the rest of the stadium. "S… St… Stardust Dragon…."
"Stardust Dragon, Akira, and Aria, wipe out his life points with an all-out assault!" the three monsters jumped forward, each taking their turn attacking the instructor, depleting his life points.
"I… I don't believe it… Stardust Dragon…" whispered the tester.
"Umm… will Miss Watson please come to the chancellor's office." Called the announcer again.
"Did I do something wrong?" she thought, until Riku came over and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You did great." He whispered in her ear, kissing her on the cheek, as his name was called for his test. "Wait for me, don't go the Chancellor's office without me."
"I won't, Riku." Replied Emily, as Riku walked onto the stage. "You just witnessed one of 3 duelists here that you need to watch out for. Ready Mr. Tester?" said Riku, turning on his duel disk and drawing his first card. "Testee goes first right?"
Chapter 5: The Test of the Rose - Spoiler:
Riku walked into the arena, turning on his duel disk. "Let's get started shall we? I draw! I summon the Black Rose Knight! I then place 2 cards face down and end my turn."
"I draw!" replied the tester. "I set 1 monster, and 2 face down cards. That'll be it for me."
"I draw!" replied Riku, as Axle walked back into the arena, having answered nature's call. "I'm don't play around Mr. Tester. I summon Maiden of the Black Rose, I then tune them together to synchro summon Black Rose Dragon!"
"I know where this is going" thought Axle, "He's used this combo on me countless times."
"B…B… Black Rose…." Stammered the announcer "A… another one!"
"What does he mean another one?" said Axle. "I'm so lost dude."
"Appearantly our dragons are special. Something called "Signer" dragons Axle." Replied Riku, "Black Rose, I activate your effect, Black Whirlwind!" The cards on the field all vanished in a storm of black feathers. "It's so sad that such a beautiful creature must die this way… However it must be done. I activate the field spell card Black Rose Chambers." The field was covered with vines, hundreds of black roses bloomed from the vines, it had an ominous, yet slightly beautiful feel to it. "I then activate its effect, by paying 500 life points I can special summon any monster with Black Rose in its name from my grave."
"Wow… haven't seen that card before…" said Axle, looking through his deck, seeing if there were any last minute changes.
"Wh… h-how?" stammered the tester, staring at the revived signer dragon.
"I told you… I don't play…" said Riku with a smirk. "Black Rose Dragon, attack him directly!" Black Rose Dragon nodded with agreement, blasting the tester with a stream of black fire. The tester shielded his face, but his life point counter dropped by 2400 points. "I then set 2cards and end my turn."
"Well played… You show excellent use with your Signer dragon." Said the tester, drawing his card. "But you're going to need more than that. I activate the spell card, Dark Hole, destroying your dragon! Next, I activate the spell card Sweltering Heat Transmission Field! I can send 2 Laval monsters from my deck to my graveyard. I send Laval Volcano Handmaiden, and Laval Lady of the Burning Lake!"
"Lavals…. Thought Riku, "This can't be good."
"I activate Handmaiden's effect, when its sent to the graveyard while I have another Laval monster with a different name, I can send another Laval monster to my grave. I send Laval Cannon to the grave! I then activate the spell card Rekindling!" he returned Handmaiden, Lady of the Burning Lake, and Cannon.
"Oh no…" thought Axle, this isn't good…"
"Now, because I control a face-up tuner, I can special summon Boost Warrior from my hand! I then summon Flamvell Firedog!"
"He can synchro like a mother now…" whispered Riku to himself.
"I then tune my Laval Cannon to my Lady of the Burning Lake to synchro summon Ancient Flamvell Diety!"
"Like I would let that happen!" shouted Riku. "I activate the trap card, Solemn Warning!" Riku's counter dropped to 6000, paying Warning's cost. "I negate your Deity's summon!"
"Should have activated that card when I activated Rekindling, could have negated all of this." Replied the tester.
"Wha!" shouted Riku, just noticing that he could have."
"Misplays will get you into Black Rose pretty fast! I tune my Flamvell Firedog to my Handmaiden, to synchro summon Lavalval Dragoon!" the pterodactyl looking monster appeared on the field, letting out a cry as it did. "Dragoon! Attack his life points directly!" the dinosaur fired a stream of lava at Riku, who shielded his face from the magma, as his counter dropped to 3500. "I do have to say, you have some skill boy. I commend you for that."
"Yeah, well thanks… I guess.. I draw!" he stared at his cards, seeing what he could do. "I activate the spell card Foolish Burial! I send Black Rose Sorcerer to the grave!"
"Whats one card gonna do against me?" replied the tester. "You have no monsters, 1 face down card, and I have Dragoon on the field."
"Because I activate my field spell's effect. I pay 500 life points, to special summon Black Rose Dragon! And because Sorcerer is in the graveyard, I can activate this card! Seal of the Black Roses! I can banish 1 plant-type monster from my graveyard, so take control of one of your monsters!"
"But you don't have any plant type monsters!" shouted the tester
"Actually… I do… all of my monsters… Remember mr. Sorcerer I sent? Well when he's in the grave all monsters in the grave are plant-type."
"No!" shouted the tester.
"Yes, and while I should have activated Warning sooner, I'm glad I didn't, because now I can banish Maiden of the Black Rose, to take control of your Dragoon!"
"NO! My Dragoon!" he continued to shout as a black rose appeared on the head of the dinosaur, forcing it to switch sides against its own will.
"Now I activate my spell card, Rose and Dagger, however. I'll negate it with my trap card, Black Rose Bomb!"
"Why would you negate your own card?"
"Because I can inflict 300 points of damage to you for every Plant monster in my grave… and I count 3… so that's 900 points of damage." The bomb exploded, causing damage to the tester, making his counter drop to 4700. "Now! Dragoon and Black Rose Dragon, end this duel now! Magma Rose Flare!" the two dragons nodded in agreement, and blasted a spiraling combination of attacks at the tester, blasting away the rest of his life points.
"Heh… good duel… I was glad I got to duel the legendary beast." Replied the tester.
"It was a good duel." Replied Riku, getting cheers from the stadium, much like Emily. He turned around to see Axle leaning over the guard rail, giving a huge grin and a thumbs up. He kept leaning more forward until he lost balance, falling over the rail and faceplanting on the ground.
"Ow…" was all that Axle could say before Riku busted out in laughter.
"Axle…. Only you…" he said, looking around for Emily, spotting her talking to a tall, dark skinned man with grey hair. "Oi, Emily!" he called running over to the two.
"Why hello Riku." Said the tall man a Riku made it over. "Its nice to meet you."
"Likewise." He said, shaking the man's hand.
"I am the Chancellor, you may call me Aluxander VanBuren. I have taken a keen interest in you two, I would like to see if your friend Axle has the same skills as you two."
"Trust me, he does." Said Emily, looking over at Axle, having his name called, stepped up onto the arena. "Do you mind if we wait until his test is over?"
"Not at all. I want to see this kids skill as well." Replied Aluxander.
"So… you're lucky, you get to duel me." Said Axle, confident as ever. "Riku and Emily both won their duels. I can't lose" he thought.
"Shall we begin?" asked the tester, "You have first move."
"With pleasure." Replied Axle, with a confident smirk on his face.
Chapter 6: Test of the Demon - Spoiler:
"Alright. I'll start things off with a Hellion Executioner!" shouted Axle, sure as ever. "I then place 3 cards face down and end my turn."
"Alright… I summon rescue rabbit, I then activate it's effect, banishing it to special summon 2 Gem-Knight Garnet's I then activate Gem-Knight Fusion, summoning Gem-Knight Citrine!"
"Whoo. Nice one," said Axle, still smirking. "But I activate the trap card, sacred chains, by paying 1000 life points, I can negate the summon of a monster!" His life point counter dropped to 7000, as Citrine was binded in golden chains, that tightened until he exploded.
"Hmph… You got spunk kid." Replied the tester, "I'll end my turn with 2 face downs."
"Draw! I summon Hellion Succubus! And by her effect, I take control of your Gem-Knight!" The succubus batted her eyes, casting her spell on the Knight, forcing it to switch to Axle's side of the field. I then activate the field spell card Armageddon!" The sky around the field went purple, and crumbled buildings filled the space around them.
"Nice lookin field kid." Replied the tester.
"Thanks." Replied Axle, "I activate Hellion summoning! By paying 2000 life points I can special summon 1 Hellion monster from my deck! I summon Hellion Assassin!" The embodiment of fire appeared next to the Gem Knight. "Next I activate foolish burial! I send Hellion Sorceress to the grave! I then activate my field spell's effect! By discarding 1 card I can special summon 1 monster from my grave. I summon the Sorceress!"
"Whats this kid planning…." Thought the tester.
"I then tune my Sorceress to my Assassin, synchro summoning VastLord Lezia! I then activate his effect, destroying 3 cards on the field. Guess what?" smirked Axle
"What?" grunted the tester, knowing what was going to happen.
"I destroy your Citrine and your 2 face downs!" Lezia washed over the field with a torrent of water. Destroying the 3 cards, the tester cringed as he realized he had an empty field.
"This isn't good…" he thought.
"Yep!" called Axle, his life points at 5000 now. "I then activate Hellion Overcharge! I can pay half my life points, to special summon 3 Level 4 or lower Hellion monsters from my deck! I choose Hellions Shadow, Assassin, and Horse!" the 3 creatures rose up from flames as Axle life points dropped to 2500.
"I then tune my Horse to my Assassin, synchro summoning Fallen Angel Adriana!" the angelic creature rode in on a golden Pegasus, lance armed and ready.
"two level 5 monsters, both strong, and a few stragglers." Thought the tester.
"I then overlay the two synchro monsters to Xyz summon Archdemon Grandalus! From the pits of hell, the black sludge quakes with the reanimation of this dreaded dragon, arise and take flight, Archdemon Grandalus!" the ancient whit dragon encircled the arena, letting out a massive roar, announcing its arrival. I then tune my Executioner to my Succubus to synchro summon VastLord Uriziya! The gates of the different dimension rip apart, revealing all to us that which is fake. From the darkness comes the master, Come forth VastLord Uriziya!" time and space ripped apart, revealing the master of the different dimension, Uriziya stepped out and onto the battle field, the crowd was in amazement at Axle's mastery of his deck, the tester, not so much. "Uriziya, Grandalus, attack him directly!" the two launched at the tester, swiping away 5200 life points, dropping his counter to 2800. "I'll end my turn with a face down."
"Wow… all in 1 turn kid." Replied the tester. "I have to say, you're the best I've tested today."
"And the best you ever will." Replied Axle with a smirk.
"Your one confident kid. I draw… and I banish Gem-knight Garnet to bring back Gem-Knight Fusion to my hand. I then activate Dark Hole! Destroying your monsters!"
"Damn…" thought Axle as his dragon and demon were destroyed, leaving his field open. "I'm relying on this." I activate the quickspell Spirit of Vengence!"
"Spirit of what?" replied the tester.
"I can pay 500 life points, to special summon 1 monster that was destroyed during this turn! I bring back Uriziya!"
"I just can't get rid of that monster can I?"
"Not easily."
"Fine then… I activate the spell card Gem-Knight Fusion, sending Obsidian and Alexandrite to the grave, to summon Gem-Knight Zircona! Attack his monster now!"
"Like Hell I would let that happen! I activate Demonic Aura! When fiend-type monster I control is targeted for battle, it gains the attack of the attacking monster until the end of this turn, which means you take 2700 damage AND your Zircona is destroyed!"
"What the! How do you keep pulling these out?"
"Because I may not look like it much, but I keep track of everything, including life points, which you only have 100 of now."
"Dammnit! I set 2 cards and end my turn."
"Good boy. I draw. I activate heavy storm!" a whirlwind whipped up, destroying all the spell and trap cards.
"Now… I activate Hellion Summoning, dropping my lifepoints to 1000, I summon Hellion Executioner! I then activate Hellion Shadow's effect, while he's in the grave I can special summon him, but he loses 800 attack."
"A level 8 synchro… and with whats been going on… NO WAY!"
"I tune them together to synchro summon the Red! Dragon! Archfiend!" the arena drew to another hush, a the massive demonic dragon appeared in a hellstorm of blazing fury. "I thought I would give you a treat, and show you my strongest synchro monster! Red Dragon Archfiend! Go and end this duel with Absolute Powerforce!" the dragon blasted a blazing ball of fire at the tester, knocking out his last 100 life points.
"good job kid." He said walking over to Axle, shaking his hand.
"You too." Replied Axle, getting ready to turn towards Riku and Emily when he heard another duelist, what he saw surprised him. She had brown hair with red streaks, her eyes were a beautiful brown, her voice commanded power, yet, it was beautiful. Axle couldn't help but turn pink, he thought she was gorgeous. He walked over to where she was dueling, and was about to win.
"Trident Dragon, attack him directly!" she commanded, the dragon blew away the tester in a fury of blasts. She took a deep breath as the duel ended, and turned to see Axle, who turned red and tried to look away, as though he had not been staring.
"Hi there." She said friendly.
"uhh hi." Replied Axle, nervously, in the background he could hear Riku cracking up again. "I. will. Kill. Him." He thought.
"I'm Taylor," she said holding out a hand. "I saw you use the Red Dragon, I thought it was really cool."
"hehe, thanks" replied Axle, rubbing the back of his head. "Your Trident Dragon was really cool too!"
"hehe, thank you too." She replied cutely. "We should duel sometime."
"yeah I'd love to." Replied Axle, "I'm Axle by the way."
"Hehe, nice to meet you Axle, I hope we get into the same dorm." She said as she walked over to her group of friends who were squealing and giggling, looking at Axle, then at her. "I'll see ya around Axle."
"Yeah, see ya!" he called as he turned towards the chancellor, Emily, and Riku. "So, you guys enjoy the show?"
"Your careless with your life points Axle." Said Riku
"I won didn't I?" replied Axle.
"Barely."
"Well anyways, Axle, I'm the chancellor, I would like you three to come with me to my office."
"Uhh… okay…" he said, looking back at Taylor, rubbing his left forearm. "Why does my arm feel warm?" he thought, as the group followed the chancellor into his office.
"You three… are special… there are 3 other duelists at this academy like you… each with their own special dragon… however… I fell as if its too early… something isn't right here…" said the chancellor, locking the door and sitting at his desk.
"What isn't right?" asked Emily.
"The crimson dragon is only supposed to appear every millennia… its come about 950 years early…"
Chapter 7: First Encounter - Spoiler:
"What do you mean its come early?" asked Axle
"The legend of the Crimson Dragon goes as this: Once every millennia, 6 dark dragons will appear, and they will have the mark of the Dark Ruler Dragon, their mark will be purple, and it will react to the mark of the Crismon Dragon, which is what you 3 should have. Please, show me your left forearms." Said the Chancellor, walking over to the 3, they rolled up their sleeves, revealing each had a marking on their arm. The head appearing on Riku's arm, the wings on Axle's arm, and the right claw on Emily's arm. "Just as I suspected, you three are Signers."
"What is that?" asked Emily, "I'm so confused."
"I know this is hard to wrap your heads around, but believe me, you three are special. Something bad is brewing, and you three are going to play a major role in it. You need to find the other 3 signer dragons, look for those who have these 3 dragons, Ancient Fairy Dragon, Black Winged Dragon, and Powertool Dragon.
"Would signer's marks react to each other's?" asked Axle, thinking of Taylor
"Why yes, they should, especially if one is in danger." Replied the Chancellor.
"Oh no!" he thought "Taylor's in trouble!"
"Is everything okay Axle? You seem worried." Asked the Chancellor, noticing the worried look on Axle's face.
"I need to go, I'm sorry for being so abrupt." He replied, turning and heading towards the door.
"Wait! Before you go, take this." He tossed Axle a black jacket with red trimmings on it, on the back it had a tribal drawing of the Red Dragon Archfiend. "Welcome to Red Dragon Black."
"Thank you." He replied, putting the jacket on and running out of the room. "I have to get to her in time… I don't know whats going to happen, but I need to protect her!" he thought.
"So Taylor," said a girl with black hair and green eyes, she wore an orange headband that tied into bows on either side of her head. "Who was that boy you were talking to after your test?"
"Axle, he seemed really nice. He's kinda cute too." Replied Taylor looking through her deck. She had dominated her tester, but she also liked to edit her deck after every duel.
"Yeah, he was, his Dragon was pretty scary though, and I've never heard of Hellions before." Replied the girl. "Think he'll ask you out?"
"Hikari I just met the kid, why would he ask ME out, of all people?" replied Taylor, switching out Dragunity Arma Leviathan for Arma Mystellian.
"Well, he looked like he thought you were really cute." Replied Hikari, being handed Leviathan, placed it into Taylor's holding chest. "So I don't see why not."
"I don't see why." Replied Taylor, not looking up. "So what class do you think we'll get?"
"I think you'll get Stardust no problem. But I don't know about me, I think I may get Red Dragon or Black Rose, I don't think I did too well."
"You did fine, your Fortune Lady's held up no problem." The two continued talking for a bit, when they heard a knock on the door. "Who is it?" called Taylor.
"Axle." Said the person knocking on the door. Hikari just had a look on her face of "I told you so" Taylor got up and opened the door, Axle was standing there. "Uh.. hi." He said, turning pink again, making Taylor giggle.
"Hi Axle." Replied Taylor. "Did you need something?"
"Uhh… wanna go get some lunch?" stammered Axle, nervously.
"Hehe" giggled Taylor, while Hikari just acted like she was minding her own business. "I'd love to. Give me a minute to change?"
"yeah, I'll wait right here." He replied.
"Okay." She closed the door, beaming as she turned around to face Hikari.
"Told ya so." Is all she said, laying down on the bottom bunk, flipping through a magazine.
"Oh shut up." She replied, putting on a red jacket and changing into a black skirt. She opened the door, and walked out. "How do I look?"
"Amazing…" said Axle, turning as red as her jacket at this point.
"hehe, shall we get going?" she asked.
"Yeah, let's go" replied Axle, leading her towards a restaurant on campus, on the way there the two discussed a lot, music, movies, goals, they had a lot in common. They both liked the same type of music, movies, their goals were different however.
"So you want to become the strongest duelist?" asked Taylor, reassuring what she just heard.
"Yeah, ever since I was young, I've wanted to be strong. But I could never get past 1 person." He replied.
"Who's that?" asked Taylor, grabbing a hold of Axle's arm, turning him red again.
"Riku…" he said, tightening his grip.
"Awh, I'm sorry." She said. "But, everyone has that one person they can't beat, right?"
"Yeah, I guess so." Replied Axle, taking a hold of her hand, this time making her blush. The two continued walking for a bit, just enjoying each other's company. Suddenly and explosion went off, sending them flying onto their backs. "Taylor! Are you okay?" he shouted, picking her up.
"Y..Yeah…. what was that?"
"I don't know… but I don't like it." Said Axle, stepping infront of Taylor.
"Wow… seems you two are very lucky, any closer and my bomb would have incinerated both of you." Said a hooded man, donning a pitch black duel disk with purple trimmings.
"Who are you!" shouted Axle
"My name isn't important, but you may call me your executioner." Replied the hooded man.
"My executioner? What is this some kind of joke!" shouted Axle, motioning for Taylor to step back, she did as so.
"Yes… it seems you two appear to have something I want…" He held up his right forearm, a glowing purple claw appeared on it.
"A dark signer!" thought Axle, as the wings on his forearm began to glow red, Taylor's responded as such, the tail appearing on her forearm.
"Taylor… you! You're a signer!" shouted Axle.
"A what?" I'll explain later, but now I have to get rid of this guy!" said Axle. "So, how bout a duel?"
"Sure. I prefer to solve things the easy way." Replied the hooded man.
"Son you have no idea what's coming your way." Said Axle
"I'll go first. I summon Blizzard Dragon! I then activate double summon, by sending 1 card from my hand to the grave, I can normal summon again! I summon Witch of the Black Rose! I then tune my Witch to my Dragon to Dark Synchro summon!"
"Dark Synchro!" shouted Axle "What the hell is that?"
"Your doom. I summon Ghost Flare Dragon!" a massive, skeletal dragon appeared a purple flame filled the chest cavity and leaked out of its mouth, it roar was tremendous, being heard from the other side of the island, even in the chancellors room, where Riku and Emily's signs began to glow.
"What is this!" asked Riku, looking at his arm, Emily too.
"Axle is dueling a dark signer…" said the Chancellor. "He's in trouble."
"Trouble?" asked Emily.
"Yes, this isn't good, you guys aren't ready, the dark signer war can't start now!"
"I summon VastLord Ovial! I then activate his effect, special summoning Hellions Executioner and Shadow! I then tune them to synchro summon Red Dragon Archfiend!"
"I activate Bottomless Trap Hole! Banishing your dragon!"
"Shit…" thought Axle. "One Dragon, 1500 life points… this isn't good."
"My turn, I draw… hmph… you lose… I activate Dark Hole! Next I activate Monster reborn, returning Ghost Flare to the field, Ghost Flare Dragon, end this… Black Eruption!" The ancient dragon reared its head back, firing a purple stream of fire at Axle, eliminating the last of his life points. "I win…" said the hooded man, "If all the other signers are like you… this should be an easy war…" he said as his mark disappeared, and he vanished in a purple flare.
"Axle!" shouted Taylor, running over to him. "Are you okay?"
"I…. I lost…. I… couldn't protect you…" he stammered, eyes wide with the thousand yard stare.
"Its okay… its not your fault…." Was the last words he heard before he blacked out.
Chapter 8: Revocation - Spoiler:
"Huh… where am I…?" though Axle, looking around him seeing nothing but black. "Last thing I remember is being blasted away by that dragon… then nothing." He kept looking around, trying to find any indication as to exactly where he is. "All I know is that I couldn't protect her… I can't protect anyone… I don't deserve a signer… How can I ever beat something like that?"
"ENOUGH!" shouted an ominous voice, flames exploded around Axle, and the image of the Red Dragon Archfiend appeared in them.
"R… Red Dragon…" stammered Axle. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect her…"
"My masters have always been prideful, even in defeat they hold their heads high. You on the other hand… wallow in self-pity after one loss…" replied the dragon.
"But I couldn't defeat the Dark Signer… how can I beat any of them?" replied Axle, trying to sort out the situation, and make sense of things.
"Enough! Your lack of confidence and pride in yourself makes you unworthy of wielding neither me nor the wings of the crimson dragon." Replied Red Dragon.
"Give me another chance!"
"No! The holder of the Red Dragon is to seek power beyond unimaginable strengths, what they do with that power is their own… Your need to find why you want my power… until then… I am gone from you." Ended the dragon, fading from the flames, as the signer mark on Axle's arm disappeared.
"No!" shouted Axle, as he woke up in the academy's infirmary.
"Axle! You're up!" said Taylor, giving Axle a hug.
"Yeah… I'm awake…" he said, looking at his left forearm. It was bare, "the wings really did leave." He thought.
"Are you okay?" asked Taylor, noticing how he looked depressed.
"Yeah… I'm fine… more importantly… are you okay?" asked Axle
"I'm fine thanks to you." Said Taylor.
"Axle!" shouted Riku as he and Emily entered the room. "How are you?"
"I'm… okay…" he replied, getting up out of bed, and getting dressed. He went to put on his class jacket, but couldn't stand the sight of the Red Dragon. He tossed the jacket over his shoulder. "I'm going for a walk." He said, brushing past Riku and Emily, without even looking at them.
"Axle, wait!" shouted Taylor chasing after him, followed by Riku and Emily. The 3 followed him to the docks, where he just stared out into the ocean. "Axle… look its not your fault…"
"YES IT IS!" shouted Axle with a quivering voice. "BECAUSE I WAS WEAK AND COULDN'T PROTECT YOU THE RED DRAGON ARCHFIEND LEFT ME, TAKING MY SIGNER MARK WITH HIM!" Emily, Riku, and Taylor all gasped with shock.
"Is it really gone?" aked Emily, fearing the answer.
"Look for yourself!" he said, showing his forearm, it lacked the regular markings.
"Axle…" said Riku, walking up to his best friend, donning his new Stardust White jacket.
"Don't touch me." Replied Axle, still not turning around. "Why should I even try anymore? I'm not a signer, I'm nothing special."
"Because Axle, your one of the best duelists I've seen." Replied Riku, "The only one who ever gives me a challenge."
"I can't defeat a Dark Signer… I have no place among the signers…" continued Axle, throwing his jacket to the ground.
"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU!" shouted Riku, spinning Axle around, meeting his face with a fist, knocking Axle down. "You are not Axle Jacobi, the Axle I know would have gotten back up and been dueling again by now. You've gone years with out a signer and now that you've lost one, you think you can give up? Your pathetic."
"Shut the fuck up!" replied Axle, standing back up, fists clenched. "You don't know what you're talking about! You didn't face that thing. You didn't see your own fear in its eyes. You didn't see its destructive power. That thing is nearly impossible to beat. You wanna try it, be my guest you knightly prick!"
"Enough you two!" shouted Emily, standing between the two, emotions escalading between them. "You guys have been friends since elementary school, how are you going to fight now? If anything, you both are pathetic! Riku, obviously Axle needs us to be supportive and not angry. Axle, Riku was trying to stir your spirit. I see what he was doing. Now both of you apologize!"
"…..sorry…." murmured Axle
"What was that!" shouted Emily, getting in Axle's face.
"I said I'm sorry." He said louder.
"Good, now, Riku?"
"Sorry…" he said, picking up Axle's jacket. "Instead of feeling sorry, lets show the Red Dragon just what kind of power you have."
"I guess you're right. If anything I can help you guys prepare for this war." Said Axle, calming down, noticing Taylor in the corner. "Taylor… how long were you by my bedside?"
"Since you blacked out." She replied, a little pink. Axle smiled warmly, something he doesn't do often, Riku knew exactly what this meant though. She had found a place in his heart. Axle walked over to her, and pulled her into a tight hug, turning her as red as her hair.
"Thank you…" he whispered in her ear, before walking off into the dorms. He walked into his bedroom, locking the door behind him. He looked through his deck, "No Red Dragon…" he thought. Falling down onto his bed, he tried to think, but all thought went back to that duel with the Dark Signer. "There has to be a way to get my mark back…" He continued thinking of ways he could have won that duel, but everything went back to one card, Ghost Flare Dragon. "That fucking dragon will go down…"
