River and Blaze stood on opposite ends of the Gym pool. Both trainers glared at each other with anticipation. With a Gym Badge and Gym Position on the line, both trainers were ready to battle to the death.
River pointed at Blaze. "Blaze, it's been my dream to be the Gym Leader of Cerulean City since I was a little girl. If I win this battle, I will achieve my dream. I won't let you beat me!"
Blaze growled as he withdrew a Pokeball from his belt. "You won't defeat me easily, River! I have a dream as well. I want to be the Cinnabar Gym Leader, but Blaine won't let me until I defeat six Gym Leaders. He says the Cinnabar Gym is the second ranked Gym of the Kanto Region, and nothing less than six Gym Badges will be worthy," said Blaze as he raised his fist. "I will defeat you!"
River scoffed. "Regardless, here are the rules of the Gym Battle. Rule number one: This is a three on three single battle challenge. Rule number two: You are not allowed to switch Pokemon during the battle. Rule number three: You are not allowed to use healing items during the battle. Rule number four: If all of your Pokemon are unable to battle, then you lose. Rule number five: Prepare to lose, punk!" she yelled as she tossed her Pokeball. "Go, Vaporeon!"
A slender, blue Pokemon with a fin tail materialized on the edge of the pool before jumping into the water.
"Oh yeah? Go, Flareon!" he yelled as he tossed his Pokeball into the air and it popped open, Flareon materializing on the land.
Sweat rolled down Blaze's cheek as he attempted to come up with a plan against River. "Damn, what am I going to do? All of River's Pokemon have an advantage with that pool here...," said Blaze under his breath.
"Vaporeon, use Water Gun!"
Vaporeon jumped out of the pool and shot a Water Gun from the air. The jet of water hit Flareon and shot it at the wall. Flareon got to it's feet and shook off the water, growling as Vaporeon fell back into the water.
"Damn it," said Blaze as Flareon looked around the pool for Vaporeon. "I have to find a way to get rid of the water! Wait...I'll make it evaporate!" said Blaze as he pointed to the pool. "Flareon, use Ember on the water!"
Flareon turned it's head towards Blaze quizzically before firing an ember shot at the water. The fire ball sizzled out, the water steaming slightly.
River laughed. "What on Earth are you doing?"
Blaze grinned. "I'm getting rid of your advantage! Flareon, keep using Ember on the pool!"
Flareon repeatedly shot fire blasts at the pool. The fire caused the pool's water to shake and evaporate. Vaporeon jumped out of the hot water and walked over to the edge.
"Flareon, use Quick Attack!"
With a burst of speed, Flareon rushed the Vaporeon and tackled it in the side. Vaporeon skidded across the ground. Vaporeon stood back up, growling at the Flareon as the two circled each other.
"Vaporeon, use Water Gun!"
"Flareon, dodge!"
Vaporeon shot a jet of water at Flareon, but anticipating the attack, Flareon ducked the jet of water and used Quick Attack again, headbutting Vaporeon in the face. Vaporeon fell to the ground, blood leaking from it's nose as it tried to get back to it's feet.
"Vaporeon, return!" said River as she returned Vaporeon to it's Pokeball. River scoffed as she placed Vaporeon's Pokeball in her purse. "The only reason why I am retracting Vaporeon from this battle is because I know you won't get passed my second Pokemon," said River with a sly smirk as she pulled out a Pokeball. "Go Gyarados!"
River tossed the Pokeball at the pool and popped open. A large, slender Gyarados materialized and roared at Blaze.
Sweat rolled down Blaze's cheek and Flareon shuddered in fear as Gyarados loomed over the Flareon.
"Where the hell did you get a Gyarados!" said Blaze as River laughed.
"River got a Magikarp from a salesman outside of Pewter City," said Flora to Voltage. "River gave Magikarp a Rare Candy, and it evolved into Gyarados. This is her first time using it in battle."
River pointed at Blaze and his Flareon. "Gyarados, use Thrash!"
Engulfed in a rage, Gyarados slammed it's head against Flareon's body. Flareon rolled on the ground and smacked against the wall, passed out from the vicious attack.
"Flareon, return..." said Blaze in defeat as he returned Flareon to it's Pokeball and dropped to one knee. "Damn it, how am I going to defeat a Gyarados?" Blaze asked himself as he pulled out his last two Pokeballs. "Growlithe...I need you, buddy." said Blaze as he stood up and tossed the ball. "Go, Growlithe!"
Growlithe materialized at the edge of the pool, Gyarados roaring at the Growlithe. Enraged, the Gyarados charged the Growlithe head first.
"Growlithe, use Wild Charge!"
Growlithe barked as he ran towards the Gyarados, electricity bouncing around it's body as Gyarados missed it's attack, Growlithe tackling Gyarados in the chest. Electricity jolted the Gyarados as it let out a deafening roar of pain. Growlithe shook it's head as it recovered from the recoil.
"You pest! Don't think your Wild Charge will be enough to beat me!" growled River as she gave Gyarados a command. "Gyarados, use Dragon Rage!"
"What! Not Dragon Rage!" said Blaze horrified as Gyarados reared it's head back and shot blue flames at Growlithe. Engulfed, Growlithe howled in pain as the flames disbursed and toppled over.
As Blaze reached for his Pokeball, Growlithe got back up and barked at the Gyarados, it's body covered in burns. "Growlithe, are you sure you want to stay in this battle?" asked Blaze. Growlithe gave Blaze a nod, which Blaze returned. "Alright, use Bite!"
Growlithe rushed the Gyarados and bit it's scaly body. Gyarados howled in pain as it shook Growlithe off.
"Gyarados, show Blaze what a real Bite attack is!"
Gyarados opened it's jaws wide and scooped Growlithe into it's mouth. Crushing Growlithe, it's fangs buried into it's body.
"No, Growlithe!" shouted Blaze as he hastily grabbed Growlithe's Pokeball and returned it.
River moved a lock of her hair out of her face as Gyarados shook it's head in fatigue. "Just hang in there, Gyarados. He only has one Pokemon left."
Clenching his last Pokeball, Blaze chucked it into the air. "Go, Charmeleon!" he yelled as Charmeleon appeared before the battle weary Gyarados. Charmeleon growled at Gyarados, adjusting it's Wise Glasses as the Gyarados charged Charmeleon with another attack.
"Charmeleon, use Dragon Rage!"
Charmeleon reared it's head back and shot out intense blue flames, which engulfed Gyarados' head. Unable to see, the Gyarados flailed across the ground as it's face burned before toppling.
"Humph," said River as she returned Gyarados to it's Pokeball. "You got lucky, Blaze. Your Pokemon weakened my Gyarados, but you won't defeat my Wartortle!" she shouted.
Misty held her enlarged abdomen. "This battle is getting exciting," said Misty as she felt a hard kick from her baby.
"I'm surprised Blaze defeated that Gyarados, but there's no way that he can beat her Wartortle." said Voltage.
"I wouldn't be too sure," said Flora as she held her hands together. "Come on, Blaze..."
River placed her Gyarados' Pokeball in her purse and withdrew her final Pokeball. "This is it, Blaze!" she said as she tossed it into the air. "Go, Wartortle!" she beckoned as Wartortle appeared.
Charmeleon glared at the Wartortle as it smirked smugly.
"Charmeleon, use Dragon Rage!"
"Wartortle, use Protect!"
As Charmeleon shot a blast of blue flames at Wartortle, Wartortle withdrew in it's shell and endured the fiery attack. As the flames went out, Wartortle came out of it's shell unscathed and mocked Charmeleon.
"Ha! Your Dragon Rage isn't enough to defeat me!" said River as she pointed at Wartortle. "Wartortle, use Water Gun!"
"Oh yeah! Charmeleon, use Smokescreen!"
As Wartortle inhaled, Charmeleon exhaled black smoke that filled the Gym. Wartortle's Water Gun attack missed as the jet of water crashed into a wall.
River growled as she and Wartortle looked around the thick black smoke. "Damn it! show yourself!"
"Charmeleon, use Scary Face!"
Charmeleon poked it's head outside of the smoke, directly in front of Wartortle and made a frightening face. Shocked by the sudden appearance, Wartortle toppled backwards and landed on it's shell.
"That's a dirty trick!" yelled River as the smoke cleared.
Blaze stuck out his tongue at River and gave Charmeleon another command. "Now, Charmeleon, use your Dragon Rage!"
"Wartortle, use Rapid Spin!"
As Charmeleon's Dragon Rage blasted Wartortle, it's body spun rapidly and ejected itself out of the flames and back onto it's feet. Once on it's feet, it shot a Water Gun at the Charmeleon, the jet of water smacking Charmeleon in the chest and flung it across the room. Slamming into the wall, Charmeleon fell to the floor.
"Charmeleon, don't give up!" said Blaze as Charmeleon stood back up and rubbed it's chest.
"Char!"
Wartortle heaved as it raised it's fists, ready to fight.
"Dammit, Wartortle took a lot of damage from that Dragon Rage," said River as she noted Wartortle's health. "This is our chance! Wartortle, use Water Gun!"
"Charmeleon, use Dragon Rage!"
"Ow! Ohh!" yelled Misty as she held her belly.
"Misty, what's wrong?" asked Voltage as he and Flora attended to Misty.
"What's going on?" asked River, as the Pokemon ceased their attacks.
"I'm...I'm having the baby!" said Misty as her water broke.
"What! Not during our battle!" said Blaze as he and River returned their Pokemon and ran over to Misty.
"Forget the Gym Battle, we need to get Misty to a hospital!" shouted River as she and Flora helped Misty to her feet.
As River, Blaze, Flora, and Voltage escorted Misty out of the Cerulean Gym, a tall man in a black coat blocked the exit.
"Hey man, get out of the way!" said Blaze as the girls helped Misty out of the front door.
The man grinned as his long, raven black hair swayed in the wind, his eyes hidden by the blue tint of his glasses. "You four aren't going anywhere," he said in a deep voice.
"what is that supposed to mean?" asked Flora nervously. "Who are you?"
The corners of his lips curved as he took out an Ultra Ball. "You can call me J. I'm going to take those files you have on the Legendary Pokemon."
The end of J's coat brushed back as the wind blew across him, his lips curved into a wicked grin. "I'm not going to say it again," said J as he extended his arm. "Give me the files on the Legendary Pokemon." he said with a gesture of his hand.
Blaze growled as he raised his fits. "What the hell do you want with those disks, huh?" he shouted as River slapped the back of his head.
"Idiot, he wants to know where to find them and how to beat them." said River as she withdrew her Pokeball. "This guy must be with Team Rocket."
J chuckled slightly as he lightly the Ultra ball in the air and caught it. "My, aren't you the clever one," said J as he walked forward. "However, my plans are far beyond that old, pathetic group. Now, I'm not going to say it again. Give me those files, or suffer." he said coolly.
"Over my dead body!" yelled Blaze as he took out his Pokeball and chucked it. "Go, Charmeleon!"
An exhausted Charmeleon materialized in front of Blaze. "Char, Char," said the Charmeleon as it growled, adjusting it's Wise Glasses.
River reached for her Pokeball before Blaze grabbed her hand. "No, you need to take Misty to the hospital. You're the only one that can knows where it is."
"But..." protested River as Misty groaned as she endured the labor. River sighed as she nodded her head. "Fine. We'll meet you at the hospital."
Blaze nodded as he turned his attention back to J. "Alright J, I'm going to make you regret trying to steal those disks!" shouted Blaze.
J readjusted his glasses as he grinned sadistically. "Is that so? Well, let's see if you can make me. Go, Rhyperior!" yelled J as he tossed the Ultra Ball at the ground, which burst opened and a very large Rhyperior materialized on the ground. It slammed its fists together and yelled loudly, it's drill spinning menacingly.
Beads of sweat rolled down his cheeks as Charmeleon stood paralyzed in fear. "Well...I'm screwed," said Blaze nervously as the Rhyperior stumbled toward the Charmeleon.
River turned her head and looked back at the Rhyperior, her jaw dropping. "That is a powerful Pokemon...No way Blaze will be able to take that on by himself," said River as she turned her head back and looked down the road. "Someone should stay and help him..."
"Our Pokemon are too weak," said Voltage as he helped Misty walk. "There's no way my Pokemon would stand a chance against that Rhyperior anyway." muttered Voltage.
"I know, but..." said River as she looked back.
"Charmeleon, use Dragon Rage!" ordered Blaze.
Charmeleon reared it's head back and fired a blue blaze at the Rhyperior. The Rhyperior took the hit without flinching. It didn't move a muscle as the attack fizzled out. It looked down, as if it suffered a mild itch.
J laughed as he pushed his glasses up. "You fool. Dragon Rage won't do anything against my Rhyperior," he said smugly as Rhyperior stepped forward. With a wide grin, he muttered a single attack. "Rock Wrecker."
The Rhyperior roared loudly as it rushed the Charmeleon and tackled it to the side of the gym. The breath was knocked out of Charmeleon as it's ribs and spine smashed against the concrete and Rhyperior's hard skin. As Rhyperior stepped back, Charmeleon fell to the ground and rolled to it's back, gasping for air.
"No, Charmeleon!" yelled Blaze as he ran over to Charmeleon and knelled beside him.
Rhyperior kicked Blaze away from the Charmeleon and placed it's heavy foot on Charmeleon's chest.
"What are you doing!" yelled Blaze as he tried to push the Rhyperior off his Charmeleon, but it wouldn't budge.
"Order your Rhyperior to get off my Charmeleon!" pleaded Blaze as J stood there.
"Why should I?" asked J as he tilted his head. "I may consider it, for a price." said J with a snicker.
Blaze glared at J as a stream of tears rolled down his cheek. He looked back to find his Charmeleon squirm underneath Rhyperior's feet. "You would kill my Pokemon, just for some stupid data on a rare Pokemon?" asked Blaze as he fell to his fours.
"Yes," said J simply. "You see, the Legendary Pokemon of Kanto and Johto are not my only targets. I am aiming to capture the most powerful Pokemon in the world, the being that created everything. I need powerful Pokemon to obtain my ultimate goal."
"You're doing all of this...Just for a rare Pokemon!" yelled Blaze as he lunged at J, his fists curled.
J blocked the attack and hip tossed Blaze to the ground. Placing his knee into Blaze's chest, he pinned Blaze to the ground. "Yes, I am doing this for my own purposes. Killing your Pokemon is but a stepping stone. Now give me that-"
A jet of water blasted J off of Blaze. A second blast of water blasted Rhyperior off of Charmeleon. Misty, River, and the others stood across the street, ready to fight. Misty's Starmie and River's Wartortle stood ready for battle.
"I suggest you leave," said Misty menacingly. "I have alerted the officials. They will be here any minute."
J and Rhyperior stood up. The Rhyperior shook the water free. As Rhyperior walked towards the group, ready for battle. However, J ordered Rhyperior to stand down.
"Rhyperior, enough." said J as he took out an Ultra Ball and returned it. "That is enough for today," said J as he took out a Great Ball and tossed it into the air. He tossed it into the air and the Great Ball snapped open, a Dodrio materializing. J got on Dodrio's back as it snapped it's heads at the trainers. "This isn't the last time you've seen me. I will get those files, mark my words."
Each of Dodrio's head snapped in the air as it carried J, running through the streets of Cerulean City.
Blaze helped Charmeleon to it's feet, holding him close as he and the others watched J flee. "I won't forgive you for this..." said Blaze icily as J disappeared into the city.
